What is my Body Type?

Understanding your body type helps you increase your energy plus achieve diet & skin results faster.

Have you followed the same diet & workout plan as your friend, maybe even more strictly, but ended up with less dramatic results? The reason is that you probably have a body-type not suitable to that diet plan.

What is my Body Type?

According to fitness experts, there are 3 main body types: ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph.  And each body type loses weight and builds muscle in different ways.

Body typing is based on the concept of somatotypes. This science was developed in the 1940s to correlate body structure with physical strengths and weaknesses. Research suggests that that are differences in physiques, hormonal responses, and physical performances based on somatotype profiles. And there is good scientific data behind using somatotyping for fitness and athletic training to enhance performance.

Ectomorphs lose weight quickly, endomorphs build muscle mass much easier, mesomorphs need to find their ideal balance. It’s really important to eat and exercise according to your body type to achieve the results you want. To learn more about your body type then take our Body Type Quiz.

Ayurvedic Body Types or Doshas – A More Comprehensive System

Now while this concept of somatotypes entered western science in the 1940’s, in Ayurvedic medicine, the ancient Indian medical system – this idea has existed for centuries. In Ayurvedic medicine – body types are called dosha. And there are three main doshas – Vata, Pitta & Kapha. If you understand the characteristics then:

Vata = Ectomorphs

Pitta = Mesomorphs

Kapha = Endomorphs.

But the Ayurvedic system is more comprehensive than modern western somatotyping. It makes room for mixed dosha’s like Vata-Pitta or Ectomorph+Mesomorph types. And many people are mixed types. The Ayurvedic system also takes emotions, psychological default modes & behavioural responses into account.
