What are Dosha?
Understand Your Body Type and Learn How to Keep it Healthy
Ayurvedic medicine brings good health by realigning the mind, body and the energy. All three must work in harmony for you to function well.
According to Ayurveda, our five senses serve as the portals between the internal and external world. The five elements of ether or space, air, fire, water, and earth compose everything around and within us.
Ayurveda groups these five elements into three basic types of energy and functional principles that are present in everybody and everything. Since there are no single words in English to describe these principles; we use the Sanskrit words Vata, Pitta, and Kapha to describe them.
Vata, Pitta and Kapha are known collectively as doshas, Each governs a certain function within the body. If any of the doshas becomes imbalanced, the harmonious workings of your body are disrupted. Depending on which dosha is imbalanced, specific treatment, diet, skincare & lifestyle changes is required to realign them.

The 3 Dosha’s
Here’s a brief introduction to the Dosha types. If you know your Dosha and want a suitable diet and lifestyle plan, then click on the appropriate Dosha below.
Kapha Dosha
When balanced – Kapha types have a strong physical build and excellent stamina. They have large, soft eyes; smooth, radiant skin; and thick, lush hair. They sleep soundly and have regular digestion.
When unbalanced – Kapha types gain weight, retain fluid and develop allergies. They become lethargic and sleep excessively. Prolonged Kapha imbalance leads to asthma, chronic respiratory infections, diabetes, and depression.
Pita Dosha
When balanced – Pitta types have healthy appetites and good digestion. They have strong immune systems and a very good work ethic. They are quick witted and efficient in all that they do.
When unbalanced – Pitta types can be hot-headed, aggressive and impatient. Due to their good metabolism and robust bodies they often overindulge and this leads to ill health, mainly inflammatory conditions and stress related diseases.
Vata Dosha
When balanced – Vata types are are energetic, creative, inspirational. They move gracefully. They have quick thoughts and very active imagination. The ponder the world problems, work to find solutions, yet remain joyful.
When imbalanced – Vata types tend to lose weight and suffer from constipation. Prolonged Vata imbalance leads to anxiety, weakness of muscles and joints, arthritis, aches and pains often diagnosed as fibromyalgia.

THE AIM OF AYURVEDA IS TO HELP YOUR BODY
OVERCOME STRESS BY RECREATING INNER BALANCE.
According to Ayurveda – every person is made of five basic elements which are also found in the universe. These elements are space, air, fire, water, and earth.
These elements combine in the human body to form three body types, called doshas. These dosha’s control how your body works.
They 3 dosha’s are Vata (space & air); Pitta (fire & water) and Kapha (water & earth).
Everyone inherits a unique mix of the three doshas. It’s believed that your chances of staying well or getting sick is linked to the balance of your doshas. Therefore Ayurveda aims to help you understand your dosha or body type.
Traditionally pulse diagnosis and expert observation was used to determine how well your body is functioning. However, we have designed a simple quiz to help you understand your body type. And based on this Body Type Quiz – Ayurvedic diet plans, lifestyle and product recommendations are provided. If you are taking any medicines or unsure about these recommendations – please contact your doctor. To understand your body type and receive your personalised Ayurvedic Plan.
Organic Apoteke harnesses the power of Ayurveda
Organic Apoteke is steeped in Ayurvedic wisdom.
Dr Nitasha Buldeo’s grandmother was a traditional Ayurveda healer.
She functioned as both Ayurvedic healer and Priestess. Nitasha recalls, “I used to pick herbs for her to ‘cook’ into remedies.
She got results and word spread – people adored her for her ability to heal. And she inspired me to follow in this healing tradition”.
While Nitasha had strong connections to her grandmother’s traditional, deeply spiritual knowledge, she followed a more scientific path. She craved being on the cutting edge of science so got involved in medical research.
But Nitasha could not forget her grandmother’s remedies. Grandmothers wisdom got results. But the scientist granddaughter wanted to discover why these remedies worked. She changed her focus to skin physiology – looking for ways of getting grandmothers wonderful ayurvedic medicines to penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin.
This led to our natural formula’s that honour ancient Ayurvedic & Yogic principals but are tested under the rigours of modern science. This combination makes Organic Apoteke products both effective and pure.

“No more breakouts and my skin no longer looks greasy. I also use the Active Face Cleanse Gel and the Active Face Hydrate Gel… these products are fabulous too. But the Detox Mask is a real treat.”
